Rent a trailer for the run to the recycling centre or the move, a bakfiets to cycle the kids to the beach, an e-bike to try before you buy one: on Huurmarkt you rent it from someone nearby who otherwise has it sitting on the drive. No queue at the DIY store, no pick-up point across town: you collect it around the corner and bring it back afterwards.

Under Vehicles & Mobility you can rent and rent out trailers (open and enclosed, braked and unbraked), transport equipment, bikes, e-bikes and cargo bikes: bike hire from a neighbour rather than a shop. Every listing shows the day price and any deposit up front; on the search page you filter on 'Instant book' and on 'Requires ID verification', and an ID or driving-licence requirement appears in the booking step, before you pay. For a trailer the owner can fill in the load capacity and whether it is braked; for a bike the type and whether it is electric. Anything that fits none of the other subcategories belongs under Other Mobility Items.

Rent an open or an enclosed trailer?
An open trailer is the all-rounder for garden waste, the recycling centre, building materials and large furniture: low loading, easy to secure with straps, and with a net over it fine for loose material. An enclosed trailer keeps your things dry and out of sight, for a move, a market stall or equipment that must stay dry; a luggage trailer is the compact version. A horse needs a horse trailer and a boat a boat trailer; the latter lives under Watersports. Huurmarkt has no open/enclosed filter: read the title and photos and ask in the chat.
Load capacity, brakes and your tow bar
Check two things on the listing: the load capacity in kilos and whether the trailer is braked. An unbraked trailer is lighter and simpler; a braked one may carry more and brakes more safely. Then check your own car: what may it tow braked and unbraked according to its registration, is there a tow bar, and does the plug fit (7- or 13-pin; an adapter usually solves it)? Load the weight over the axle, slightly nose-heavy, and check lights, tyre pressure and coupling before you set off. Which licence you need is covered below.
Bike, e-bike or bakfiets?
For a day in town or a house guest, a city bike will do. Choose an e-bike for longer distances or headwind and ask the owner about battery range and whether the charger is included; an e-bike with pedal assistance up to 25 km/h counts as a bicycle in the Netherlands. A speed pedelec (up to 45 km/h) falls under moped rules (number plate, helmet, licence), and a fat bike with a throttle often is not allowed on the public road; ask the owner beforehand whether it is road-legal. A bakfiets is the answer for children, groceries or a small move within the city; do a test lap first, as a two-wheeler steers differently from a three-wheeler. Agree where the bike is kept overnight and which lock comes with it; that matters more than with a trailer.

Which driving licence do I need to tow a trailer?
A Dutch B licence lets you tow a trailer with a permitted maximum mass of up to 750 kg, or a heavier one as long as car and trailer together stay within 3,500 kg; above that you need B+ (code 96, up to 4,250 kg) or BE — that is the legal rule from the Dutch government (Rijksoverheid) and the RDW. It is about the maximum mass on the trailer's registration, not what you actually load, and your own car's registration states its braked and unbraked towing limits. Ask the owner beforehand which licence their trailer needs, because Huurmarkt does not check the licence category — an owner can, however, require a driving licence verified through Huurmarkt, and you see that in the booking step before you pay. How much does it cost to rent a trailer per day?
As a market indication, commercial rental companies quote around €10 to €25 per day for an open trailer and €25 to €45 for an enclosed one; on Huurmarkt the owner sets the day price, so it differs per trailer. You pay the day price per calendar day (collect Friday, return Monday counts as four days) plus any deposit the owner asks for, which comes back afterwards. For a bike or bakfiets, commercial rental companies quote 'from €5' and 'from €19' per day as a market indication; on Huurmarkt an owner can also offer a half day at their own price. Do I need a driving licence or ID verification to rent an e-bike or bakfiets?
No: an e-bike with pedal assistance up to 25 km/h or a bakfiets counts as an ordinary bicycle in the Netherlands, so no licence is needed. A speed pedelec (up to 45 km/h) falls under moped rules — helmet, number plate and an AM or B licence — so ask the owner beforehand what you need for one. Any owner can, however, require ID verification or a verified driving licence per listing; ID verification is a filter on the search page, and in the booking step you see any requirement before you pay. What if the trailer or bike gets damaged — does Huurmarkt protection apply?
No, Huurmarkt protection does not apply to vehicles and mobility: you report damage to the trailer or bike via Huurmarkt, which uses the pick-up and return photos to assess what is withheld from the deposit, and anything beyond that the owner recovers from the renter. If an e-bike or bakfiets goes missing or is stolen, the deposit can likewise be withheld, so agree on the lock and overnight storage beforehand. Traffic incidents and damage to third parties are separate: Huurmarkt is not a party to those, and you settle them directly between renter and owner. More: Liability.
