A hammer drill for the hooks in a concrete ceiling, a mitre saw for the new floor, a room scaffold to paint the stairwell: tools you need for one weekend and then not for years. On Huurmarkt you rent tools from someone in the Netherlands who already owns them — a private owner with a well-stocked workshop or a rental company that rents out through Huurmarkt — and bring them back when the job is done. No hardware-store counter, no membership.

Which tools to rent for your job: drilling, sawing or working at height
For wall plugs in brick, wood and metal a percussion drill is the universal choice. As soon as you hit concrete — anchors, ceiling hooks, feed-throughs — you want a rotary hammer drill with an SDS chuck: it hammers as it drills and asks far less strength of you. Large holes for ventilation or drains in concrete call for a diamond core drill; ask which core bit is included and whether it drills wet or dry.
A mitre saw is for many identical square or angled cuts: skirting, laminate, decking. Sheet material and doors come out splinter-free with a plunge saw on a guide rail, curves with a jigsaw, tiles with a tile cutter or wet tile saw.
A ladder suits short jobs. For ceilings, stairwells and wallpapering a room scaffold is more comfortable: both hands free and room for materials. Outside, on a façade or gutter, rent a scaffold tower; filter under Ladders & Access Systems by working height.
What to look for when you rent tools
- Power source: Manual, Electric, Battery or Combustion — the filter under Machines & Power Equipment and Garden & Outdoor Machines. Cordless: are battery and charger included?
- Weight class: Handheld, Medium or Heavy (two-person) — decides whether it fits in your car and whether you need help.
- Working height: in metres for ladders and scaffolds; measure your ceiling or façade first.
- Included accessories and return condition: shown per listing; bits, blades and fuel are consumables, so ask in the chat.
- Instructions or certificate: ask the owner beforehand what they expect for a chainsaw or scaffold, and for a walkthrough at handover.
Rent or buy tools?
Use that drill ten times a year? Then you are better off renting it for a day ten times — that is how the Dutch trade magazine BouwTotaal sums it up (market source, not a Huurmarkt figure). If a core drill or scaffold tower would only be in the way after that one job, renting is the sensible choice: no purchase, no maintenance, no storage. Do buy what you reach for weekly: a good cordless drill, a spirit level, basic hand tools. The rest is waiting at someone's place nearby.

What does renting tools cost per day?
The owner sets the day price, so it is shown per listing — and on Huurmarkt tools can also be shared for free. For orientation: on other Dutch sharing platforms, private owners often ask a few euros a day for an ordinary drill (market figure, not a Huurmarkt price). You pay the day price × the number of days plus the deposit and any delivery cost, and you see that total before you pay; how rental days and a weekend are counted is explained on the Rent page. Which drill do I need: percussion drill, rotary hammer or core drill?
For brick, wood and metal a percussion drill will do; for concrete you want a rotary hammer drill with an SDS chuck, and for large holes for ventilation or drains in concrete a diamond core drill. With a core drill, ask which core bit is included and whether it drills wet or dry. If in doubt, filter under Machines & Power Equipment by Power source (Manual, Electric, Battery or Combustion) and weight class, and ask the owner in the chat for advice on your wall. Do I need a certificate or licence to rent a chainsaw or scaffold?
No driving licence, and for the tools on this page usually no certificate either; for a chainsaw or scaffold the owner may ask for a minimum age, experience or protective gear. So ask in the chat before you book which certificate or experience the owner expects, and ask for instructions at handover. What is included: batteries, bits, blades and protective gear?
That is shown per listing under 'Included accessories'; do not assume bits, blades, sandpaper or fuel are included, as those are consumables. For cordless tools, check that battery and charger are included and which brand platform they belong to. Also ask about safety glasses and ear protection, and note the return condition the owner may specify — clean and with a full battery, for example. See Item return.
Will a room scaffold or mitre saw fit in my car, or can I have tools delivered?
A room scaffold or a mitre saw on a stand does not fit every car, so ask the owner in the chat for the dimensions and agree a pick-up time; picking up from the owner is the norm.
