Moving house: rent a trailer and hand truck

That depends on what has to come along. Boxes, garden stuff and a mattress under a tarpaulin fit on an open trailer; furniture and things that must stay dry and out of sight go better in an enclosed trailer, and for a whole home you quickly end up with a large or enclosed trailer. Then check the permitted maximum mass on the trailer's registration certificate: what counts is what is stated there, not what you actually load. If it is above 750 kg, whether a category B licence is enough or you need BE depends on the combination with your car — the full Dutch rule is on the Rent a trailer page, and what your car may tow is on its own registration. Huurmarkt does not check your licence category; if in doubt, ask the owner for the trailer's maximum mass beforehand.

Moving blankets and straps can also be listed separately under Moving & Storage Equipment, as can moving boxes; with an open trailer count on a net or tarpaulin for loose items, and with a hand truck ask about the load capacity and the type of tyres. You book each listing separately — one booking is always one item — but it can certainly be the same owner, if they offer a trailer and a hand truck, say. Search per group and check on the map which owners are close to each other, so you collect everything in one trip. Report it to the owner in the chat straight away and take photos; damage is first settled from the deposit. For a hand truck or cleaning machine the owner may have switched on Huurmarkt protection — if you booked with protection (which only a verified renter can do), Huurmarkt assesses whether the risk pool can top up the remainder, provided there are check-in and check-out photos and the damage occurred within the rental period.
