Rent a pressure washer for the patio once a year, scarify the lawn once, clean the carpet once before you hand back the keys: machines you then do not see for eleven months. Buying means a pressure washer in the shed and a carpet cleaner in the attic; renting means picking it up from someone in the Netherlands who already owns it — a neighbour, a landscaper or a rental company around the corner.

An owner asks a day price or shares something for free; you rent per calendar day, and some listings let you book half a day — morning or afternoon, agreed with the owner. Scarifying, tilling or leaf blowing

A scarifier cuts moss and thatch out of an existing lawn: mow short first, scarify in two directions and overseed the bare patches. Electric is enough for a city garden, petrol for large lawns with no socket within reach; check the working width and whether a collection box is included. A tiller loosens the soil for a new lawn, a border or a vegetable bed — not for maintaining existing grass. For leaves and prunings a leaf blower will do.

Renting a pressure washer: pressure, water and attachments

For a patio, driveway or fence you want roughly 130 bar or more and a patio-cleaner attachment, which prevents streaks and spray; for a car, bike or garden furniture less pressure is actually better. Ask whether the hose, lance, dirt blaster and patio cleaner come with it, and whether you have an outdoor tap within hose length. Never let the pump run dry: it is the fastest way to break it, and that damage comes out of the deposit.

Carpet cleaner or steam cleaner

A carpet cleaner (spray extraction) sprays in water with cleaning solution and sucks it back up — for carpet, sofa and car seats; allow a few hours of drying time and ask whether the solution is included. A steam cleaner works without chemicals on tiles, grout, taps and the oven, but does not belong on laminate or unvarnished wood.

Renting a patio heater: gas or electric

A gas patio heater is for outdoors or under an open canopy only, never in a tent or indoors; check with the owner that the hose and regulator are not past their date and who supplies the gas bottle. Electric is quieter and needs no gas bottle, but wants a sturdy outdoor socket and heats a smaller area. For a party, also look under Events, Parties & Hospitality.

What does it cost to rent a pressure washer or lawn scarifier per day?

On Huurmarkt the owner sets the day price — some machines are shared for free — and where the listing offers it you can book half a day at its own price. The deposit and any delivery fee are added on top; the deposit comes back afterwards. For comparison, from 2026 market research (not Huurmarkt figures): DIY chains and rental platforms charge roughly €25 to €44 a day for a scarifier, private owners on classified sites around €20 to €27.50 plus about €50 deposit, and a Kärcher pressure washer rents from a rental shop from about €45 per day of use. Which machine do I need: scarifying, tilling or just clearing leaves?

For moss and thatch in an existing lawn rent a scarifier (verticuteermachine), to turn over the soil for a new lawn or vegetable bed rent a tiller (tuinfrees), and if it is only leaves a leaf blower will do. Scarifying scratches the turf open and calls for overseeding; tilling loosens the soil to about 20 cm and is not for a lawn you want to keep. What is included — and can I rent the attachment or cleaning solution in the same booking?

What comes with it is in the listing: for a pressure washer check for the hose, lance and a patio-cleaner or dirt-blaster attachment, for a carpet cleaner the nozzle and the cleaning solution, for a scarifier the collection box. Every listing is its own booking with its own deposit, so an attachment listed separately is booked separately — ask in the chat before you book exactly what is included and who supplies fuel or solution. What if the machine breaks down, or does not work at pick-up?

If it will not start at pick-up, do not take it and note that in the chat straight away: if the cause lies with the owner, you get the rental price, deposit and any delivery fee back — through customer service, as you cannot cancel yourself once the rental has started. So test it at the handover and take photos before use; if it fails during the job, stop and tell the owner immediately. Damage from misuse — a pump run dry, a scarifier driven over the paving — is settled from the deposit and beyond that you are liable yourself; the risk pool, on listings with Huurmarkt protection, is only for accidental damage within the rental period, and Huurmarkt assesses that.
