Who can list an item?#

Any user with an active account can list an item on Huurmarkt.

You must:

• Be at least 18
• Provide accurate information
• Have the right to rent out the item

You may only list items you own or that you are authorized to rent out.

Step 1 — Add photos#

You start a new listing via "Add new" in the web app.

The first screen is all about your photos:

• Add at least 1 photo (JPG, PNG or WebP); multiple photos from different angles work best.
• Drag to reorder — the first photo is the cover photo.
• Adding a title is optional on this screen.

Photos must:

• Be current
• Show the actual item
• Reveal damage or signs of use
• Not be misleading

Then choose how to continue:

• Fill in with AI — the AI looks at your photos and prepares a suggestion for category, title, description, features, facilities and rental rules. See Fill in with AI for how this works.
• Continue manually — you fill in everything yourself. The AI step is entirely optional.

Step 2 — Review & complete#

The second screen shows all parts of your listing as sections. Required fields are marked; you can publish once everything is filled in.

Category#

Pick the right main category and subcategory. A correct category improves discoverability. If you used the AI, a suggestion is already in place — check that it's right.

Description#

Provide a clear and honest description of:

• What the item is
• The condition of the item
• Any existing damage
• Specifications
• Use limitations (if relevant)

False or misleading information can lead to complaints, disputes or account restriction.

Features, facilities & rental rules#

Fill in your item's features and optionally add facilities and your own rental rules. You can also require that renters have verified their identity before they can book.

Depending on the category, extra sections may apply, such as proof of ownership.

Location#

Set where your item is located and choose your location privacy: show only the general area until a booking is confirmed, or your exact location. You can also indicate whether renters pick up and/or whether you deliver.

Availability#

Set your availability via:

• The calendar (block days when the item isn't available)
• Rental per full day and optionally per half day
• Instant booking or request-only

You are responsible for keeping the calendar current. Double bookings can lead to cancellations and consequences for your account.

Price and deposit#

You set your own rental price: per day, optionally per half day, and a refundable deposit. You can also share an item with your neighbourhood for free. See Set price and deposit.

Publish#

Once all required fields are filled in, you can publish. The listing becomes visible in search results once active. Not finished? Your listing is saved as a draft so you can continue later.

Huurmarkt may review or moderate listings.

What may NOT be listed?#

It's not allowed to:

• List illegal items
• List dangerous or prohibited goods
• Provide misleading information
• List items you're not authorized to rent out
• Create duplicate or spam listings

Huurmarkt reserves the right to remove listings.

Owner responsibilities#

As an owner you are responsible for:

• The safety of the item
• Proper maintenance
• Accurate information — including text the AI filled in for you: review and correct it before publishing
• Compliance with laws and regulations
• Proper insurance where legally required

Huurmarkt does not physically inspect items.

Specific categories#

For certain categories additional requirements may apply, e.g.:

• Vehicles (driving licence checks)
• Residential properties (specific regulations)
• Professional equipment

Extra requirements are communicated clearly per category.

Reviews and reputation#

After each rental, renters can leave a review.

A good description and proper handling lead to:

• Better visibility
• More trust
• Higher booking conversion

Important#

• Handle payments only through Huurmarkt.
• Keep communication in the chat.
• Keep your calendar up to date.
• Be transparent about the condition of your item.

Summary#

To list an item:

• Add clear photos (and optionally a title).
• Let the AI pre-fill, or fill in everything manually.
• Review the sections and complete: category, description, features, location, availability, price.
• Publish your listing.

As an owner, you are responsible for your offer.
